Tata Power EZ Home is forging ahead towards its ambitious 1 crore smart homes goal

In January this year, Tata Power articulated its strategic bet to transform Indian homes. The integrated power behemoth has set itself a bold target — to reach one crore households with smart home automation solutions over the next three years, as it pushes technology that promises better energy efficiency, safety and everyday convenience for millions of consumers.

“We are growing at around 60%, but growth will be unprecedented with this device,” said Kaushik Sanyal, National Head – Group Captive & Enterprise Accounts, Tata Power, at the launch of Tata Power EZ Home in Kolkata. “The aim is to take this to one crore households.” The bold target is being driven by Tata Power EZ Home, the company’s consumer-facing home automation portfolio that Tata Power has designed for mass adoption. With Indian households growing increasingly conscious about electricity costs, safety and ease of living, Tata Power sees smart automation as a natural extension of its role in the energy ecosystem.

100 cities, 1 purpose

A key pillar of Tata Power’s strategy is aggressive geographic expansion. The company currently operates in nine cities, but plans to expand its footprint to 100 cities within three years, under its nationwide ‘EZ Home – 100 Cities, 1 Purpose’ campaign.

Recent launches and expansions have covered the length and breadth of the country, including Kolkata, Kochi, Siliguri, Coimbatore and Mohali, reflecting a clear focus on Tier 2 and emerging urban markets, besides metros. Kochi, for instance, has been identified as a key southern market, with Tata Power targeting the adoption of smart home solutions in up to 10 lakh homes in Kerala alone over the next three years.

The choice of these cities is a deliberate, calibrated strategy by Tata Power. Rising urbanisation, a growing middle class, and increasing awareness of energy efficiency are creating a strong pull for affordable home automation — especially solutions that can be retrofitted into existing homes without rewiring or structural changes.

Most significantly, Tata Power EZ Home is positioned as an entry‑level, mass retail solution, with devices starting from ~Rs 2,500 — a critical factor in enabling wider adoption.

A powerful portfolio

At its heart, Tata Power EZ Home constitutes IoT‑enabled, app-controlled smart home products designed to give consumers control over how electricity is used inside their homes. The product range includes:

  • Smart switches and touch panels
  • Retrofittable smart converters
  • Motion sensors and smart sockets
  • Smart plugs and IR controllers for appliances
  • IoT‑enabled converter devices that can automate up to three appliances using a single unit

Most products can be installed without breaking walls or changing existing wiring, making them suitable for both new and existing homes. Users can control lights, fans, air conditioners, geysers and other appliances through a mobile app or voice assistants, even in areas with limited internet connectivity.

Smart saving

EZ Home enables energy savings — and can cut electricity bills up to 20% — through multiple everyday interventions:

  • Smart scheduling to switch appliances off automatically
  • Real‑time energy monitoring to track consumption of appliances so usage can be adjusted accordingly
  • Motion sensors that ensure lights and devices operate only when needed
  • Smart dimming to reduce unnecessary power draw
  • Scene‑based automation to avoid multiple devices running together
  • Remote control to switch off forgotten appliances
  • Intelligent load management to prevent peak‑time wastage
  • Appliance protection features that improve efficiency and lifespan

Making waves

Beyond convenience, Tata Power EZ Home is pitched as a lifestyle and energy solution. Smart scheduling, remote access and automation help users avoid unnecessary power consumption, while built‑in safety features protect appliances from voltage fluctuations and overloads.

The brand’s technology backbone has also received national recognition. In December 2025, Tata Power EZ Home was recognised at the AI/ML National Conference organised by the Ministry of Power, winning the Home Automation category for its AI‑driven integration of smart meters and home automation — reinforcing its credentials as a scalable, future‑ready platform.

Built for India

Tata Power’s larger vision goes beyond connected gadgets. By tying home automation to energy efficiency, grid intelligence and consumer behaviour, the company is positioning EZ Home as a building block in India’s transition towards smarter, more sustainable urban living.

As Mr Sanyal puts it, the goal is to make smart living “accessible, affordable and practical” — not just for metros, but for everyday homes across the country.
