MANSI+, Tata Steel Foundation’s maternal and newborn health programme, has transformed lives in one of Jharkhand’s most underserved regions. Today, it reaches more than 3.4 lakh women and children. Ninety‑three percent of high‑risk pregnancies are now delivered safely in hospitals, and more than 5,000 undernourished children are back on the path to healthy growth.
The journey of change began in Seraikela—once among India’s most vulnerable blocks in Jharkhand, where most newborn deaths occurred within the first 28 days of life. By strengthening the frontline of public healthcare—training and empowering ASHAs, known as Sahiyyas in Jharkhand—through a strong public‑private partnership model, the initiative expanded access to healthcare and enabled communities to own and sustain public health practices.
