Powering Tomorrow

Explore how AI is accelerating India’s shift towards a smart, sustainable energy future

AI is everywhere — yet it feels almost invisible and effortless. But every prompt, every learning model, every instant response, every data centre that never sleeps, requires astronomical megawatts of uninterrupted power — 24x7. Clean. Reliable. Scalable. Power that is generated on time. Power that is transmitted efficiently, economically and safely. Power that is monitored in real time.

Driving India’s transition to a smart, sustainable energy future by harnessing the power of AI is Tata Power, one of India’s largest vertically integrated power companies, which made its presence felt at the Tata AI Pavilion’s Intelligence in Action: Utilities zone at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

The No. 1 rooftop solar provider in India for the 10th consecutive year, Tata Power is revolutionising the energy landscape for residential consumers in urban and rural India by promoting rooftop solar (RTS) installations through its Ghar Ghar Solar campaign, in support of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. The company showcased an integrated AI solution at the Tata AI Pavilion that is transforming the rooftop solar ecosystem end to end, using AI as a mission enabler to accelerate solar adoption. It demonstrated how AI can remove the blocks of rising commissioning timelines, costs and service escalations for solar panel installations.

The process is simple. Installers upload photos, and AI checks commissioning photos against safety/quality checkpoints and flags issues instantly, thus performing a rooftop solar QC, while eliminating the need for manual inspections. This award-winning AI solution is built using deep learning, computer vision and agentic AI to build trust, reliability and participation at scale. What’s more, the warranty certificate to avail subsidies is generated on the spot. The numbers tell a fascinating story: Inspection turnaround time has reduced from two days to 10 minutes, repeat visits cut by over 80%, manual quality inspection cost reduced by 96%, productivity of installation partners increased by 164%, and 100% quality visibility across customer installations. The solution has been built to scale towards ~3 lakh installations per year.

Tata Power is integrating the entire power ecosystem — from large-scale, grid-connected sustainable energy investments, to extracting and delivering every ounce of energy through distributed power generation, including rooftop solar, to smart grids, to ensuring effective supply to end consumers and managing demand in real time. Its deep-tech AI algorithms are strengthening capacity building, investment planning and long-term profitability. Highly complex energy-mix modelling enables round-the-clock renewable energy at scale across solar, wind, hybrid and battery storage. Investment scenario models move seamlessly across decisions from generation to transmission to distribution — optimising cost and time, while ensuring reliable, scalable power. Real-time monitoring through AI-enabled sensors and drones, predictive ML, and asset-management models ensure high-quality power supply — keeping the data centres alive. Advanced, real-time, agentic control centres across solar, wind, storage and distribution deliver reliable, scalable energy on demand. Tata Power’s platform ENERUNI integrates end-to-end energy management — planning, forecasting, predictive modelling, monitoring and optimisation.

Other components of its AI ecosystem include Power Planner, where AI predicts demand + clean supply and suggests the best mix of sources for 24x7 power; energy disaggregation where AI breaks electricity use into easy categories and suggests simple actions to save or shift usage; mysine battery, a behind-the-metre battery that AI manages for smart charging/discharging and better performance; prosumer trading, a future model where solar customers can sell extra energy and AI supports price prediction decisions; behavioural demand response, where AI segments customers and sends the right nudge to shift usage to better time slots; AT&C loss reduction, where AI flags unusual patterns in theft/billing/collection gaps and guides targeted field action; asset health risk scoring, where AI predicts performance and scores asset health risk to prioritise maintenance and planning actions; and Bharat EV discoverability, a system that helps EV users find charging points and plan charging with more confidence.
