May 22, 2017: Tata Sons appoints Saurabh Agrawal as group chief financial officer
Mumbai: Tata Sons today announced the appointment of Saurabh Agrawal as the group chief financial officer of the company. Mr Agrawal, among India’s most successful investment bankers, brings with him over two decades of rich experience in capital markets to the Tata group.
He will join the company with effect from July 2017.
Starting his career in 1995, Mr Agrawal has a sterling record in both strategy and execution, covering a wide range of industries. He joins Tata Sons from the Aditya Birla Group, where he was head of strategy. Before that, he has been head of the corporate finance unit of Standard Chartered Bank in India and South Asia, and the head of the investment banking division in DSP Merrill Lynch.
Welcoming Mr Agrawal, the Chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, said, “He brings deep capital markets knowledge and valuable cross-industry experience to this critical leadership role in the Tata group. His expertise will help us in driving rigour and synergy in capital allocation decisions, investment management as well as consolidation and optimisation of the group’s business portfolio. We look forward to his contribution in driving financial performance of the group”.
Mr Agrawal said, “I am honoured to join the Tata group. It is an exciting time for the group under the leadership of Mr Chandrasekaran, and I look forward to contributing to the group’s profitable growth with my experience in corporate finance”.
Mr Agrawal is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, and has a post graduate management degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
May 23, 2017: Tata Sons appoints Shuva Mandal as group general counsel
Mumbai: Tata Sons today announced the appointment of Mr. Shuva Mandal as the Group General Counsel. Mr. Mandal will join the company with effect from July 2017.
As a prelude to his retirement next year, Mr. Bharat Vasani, the current Group General Counsel of Tata Sons for the last 17 years, has expressed a desire to move into a more strategic and advisory role. Accordingly, Mr. Vasani will continue with the group as Legal Adviser to the Chairman’s office.
A graduate of the National Law School, Bangalore, Mr. Mandal has over 17 years of experience in the legal profession and has advised leading Indian enterprises, global private equity firms as well as Fortune 500 companies. A member of the Bar Council since 2000, Mr. Mandal began his career with legal firm AZB Associates between 2000-15 before moving to Shardul Amarchand & Co (Advocates & Solicitors) as Partner and National Practice Head for Corporate, M&A and Private Equity. During his career, Mr. Mandal has been actively involved in deal structuring, advising on securities law and development of legal strategy for corporations.
Welcoming him to the Tata group, Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, “Mr Mandal brings wide-ranging legal experience and energy into this important role as the Group General Counsel. His time spent at India’s top legal firms have given him a ringside view of different legal strategies and his long experience of working with multiple Tata companies in the past will hold him in good stead in his new role.” Mr. Chandrasekaran further added: “Mr. Vasani will continue to advise the group to ensure a smooth transition.”
Mr Mandal said, “It has always been an enriching and learning experience working with the Tata group as an advisor, and now I look forward to playing a bigger role under the guidance of Mr. Chandrasekaran and his new team. These are exciting times for the Tata group and I look forward to contributing to its future growth.”
Mr. Mandal has been advising the Tata group on various matters. In his early days, he worked with the Tata group as a legal adviser to Tata Motors and Tata Chemicals on multiple international projects.
