November 2, 2025 will forever be etched in the annals of Indian cricket history. In front of a packed DY Patil Stadium, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team lifted the ICC Women’s One Day International (ODI) World Cup for the very first time, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a nail-biting final.
The landmark victory was more than just a win — it was a moment of pride and inspiration for millions of Indians, showcasing the team’s unwavering determination, relentless pursuit of excellence, and indomitable spirit as they scripted a new chapter for women’s cricket in India.
Recognising this extraordinary performance and contribution of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team in bringing glory to the nation, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles gifted the victorious team and their support staff keys to the Tata Sierra at a high-octane event in Bombay House. Just like the Tata Sierra that is making its iconic comeback, these champions personify resilience, power, and an unstoppable spirit — the stuff that legends are truly made of.
As a token of appreciation and respect, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, presented each player and member of the support staff with a silver salver and keys to the newly launched Tata Sierra in the presence of Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. “The culture of excellence that runs in this team has come together over years of trying, of experimenting, of disappointment, of success. This women’s team, the next generation will surely say, gave them something to aim for — it gave them a memory of utter happiness, and a dream of one day surpassing it ,” said Mr Chandrasekaran on the significance of the historic victory.
The event included an interaction with the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, Harmanpreet Kaur, who walked in along with the rest of the team to the deafening chants of ‘India, India’ and fielded questions from employees of the Tata Group. “Whenever we go to the stadium, we see that the stadium is packed with blue jerseys and that brings a lot of energy to all of us. I just want to thank them [the fans]; keep coming to the stadium, keep cheering. This team is yours,” said Ms Kaur in response to a question.
The event concluded with a memorable photograph of the winning team with Mr Chandrasekaran and Mr Chandra against the backdrop of the Tata Sierra, setting history in motion.
