KRS Jamwal, as Executive Director of Tata Industries, is responsible for the incubation of new ventures as well as investments made by Tata Industries in new businesses and start-ups.
Mr. Jamwal chairs the Boards of Tata ClassEdge Ltd., a K-12 learning solutions provider, and Impetis Biosciences, which holds pharmaceutical molecule assets/ intellectual property for out-licensing. He is a Director of Tata Medical & Diagnostics Ltd., a healthcare solutions provider. He is a member on the Board of the overseas subsidiary of Tata Industries—Qubit Investments Pte (Singapore), and its subsidiary 915 Labs, a US deep-tech company commercializing microwave-based sterilization and pasteurization systems that enable superior shelf-stable food products compared to conventional retort processing.
During his tenure at Tata Industries, Mr. Jamwal has led the conceptualization, incubation, and scaling of several businesses across technology and consumer sectors. These include Tata SmartFoodz Ltd., Tata Unistore Ltd., and Tata Advanced Materials Ltd. (now part of, respectively, Tata Consumer Products Ltd., Tata Digital Pvt. Ltd. and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd.). He has also directed multiple successful exits - Advinus Therapeutics Ltd. (sold to Eurofins Group), Inzpera Healthsciences (sold to Cipla Ltd.), and Drive India Enterprise Solutions Ltd. (sold to TVS Logistics).
From 2016 to 2022, he represented Qubit on the Funding Board of SDX Partners LLC, USA, which provides grant funding to student-initiated business ideas at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston. He represented Qubit on the Board of i3 Equity Partners, a Tel Aviv-based technology incubator in IoT and industrial IoT.
Prior to joining Tata Industries, he served as Vice President, Strategy, Group Corporate Centre, Tata Sons, assisting the then Group Chairman, Ratan Tata, on strategy-related matters concerning Tata companies and supporting him on special assignments such as the Investment Commission (2005-2009) and the US-India and UK-India CEO Forums. He is a member of the India-Israel Forum.
Mr. Jamwal started his career with TAS (formerly known as Tata Administrative Services) in 1989. His initial assignments, such as with the Indian Hotels Company Ltd. (Taj Group of hotels), included project management for setting up new hotels and flight catering units, with subsequent responsibilities relating to strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Jamwal serves on the Steering Committee of the Quantum Foundry at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Hyderabad and is a member of the Investment Committee of the Technology Development Board, Government of India.
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, where he was awarded the scholastic gold medal and the KV Srinivas Award for the best all-rounder. He holds a Bachelor's degree in technology in petroleum engineering from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, and was awarded the scholastic gold medal and the best student shield.
