VSNL to be named Tata Communications

Communications solutions company Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), part of Tata Group, said on Wednesday its board has approved to change the company's name to Tata Communications Ltd.

"The change in the company's name is a major step in our commitment to customers, partners and stakeholders. Tata Communications reiterates a focus on the global communications business where we are a major player; at the same time, it reflects our strong heritage and leadership position in India," VSNL CEO and MD N Srinath said in a statement.

VSNL believes that the name change would help it to leverage the brand equity of Tata Group.

Tata Group assumed the management of VSNL about five years ago.
