Tatas place $14.5 m OSS order with Agilent Tech

Two Tata group companies Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL)
and Tata Teleservices Ltd have placed a $14.5 million
Operation Support Services (OSS) order with US-based
Agilent Technologies. Under the contract, the Tata group
companies will use the service assurance solutions provider's
OSS solutions to construct a centralised network management
systems (CNMS) in Mumbai. The CNMS will manage the service
providers' international and domestic telecommunications
services, ensuring service quality and customer satisfaction.
This will also help in streamlining
the companies network operations, Agilent Technologies
said in a release here today. The $14.5-million deal
includes Agilent OSS QoS Manager and NETeXPERT-based
network management software products, services and support.
Coupled with partner products, CNMS is a comprehensive
end-to-end OSS solutions in the industry, covering fault,
performance, configuration, security, inventory, trouble
ticketing and workflow management.
"We chose Agilent's OSS
solutions as the base of our CNMS, given their comprehensive
functionality and flexibility across proven global deployments,"
Tata Tele chief technology officer (corporate) Greg
Young said. This is Agilent's biggest deal in India
and it highlights the company's commitment to the Indian
market, the release said. Agilent Technologies is a
measurement company and a technology leader in communications,
electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis.
