Voltas
launches knowledge portal
May
17, 2005
On May 17, Voltas inaugurated
V-Gyan, its knowledge portal designed for
learning and sharing, knowing and growing.
At the launch ceremony at HO, Mumbai, MD Ashok Soni
described V-Gyan as a people-centric initiative based
on the recognition that "Today, more than any other
asset, it is human capital which makes the difference."
Said A J Gole, VP-HR: "A companys knowledge
capital is very critical to its business. V-Gyan addresses
the need to convert the tacit knowledge lying in the
brains of people into explicit knowledge."
The launch was preceded by a
series of daily teasers over the Voltas intranet, building
up curiosity and speculation about an unspecified exciting
event scheduled for May 17. There was also a contest
for creating a suitable name for the site, with the
winning entry V-Gyan coming from as many
as eight contestants. The 1st prize winner, chosen by
lucky draw, was U B Pai of Thane Works; consolation
prizes were awarded to the seven remaining contestants.
In a surprise addendum to the launch ceremony, prizes
were also given to the early birds who responded
with such amazing promptness to the contest call, demonstrating
both agility and creativity of a high order.
VP-IT and CIO, Satish Bilgi
introduced the concept of the knowledge portal as the
medium of knowledge exchange, and expressed the hope
that V-Gyan would build up its own feedback loop of
sharing-learning-using, leading to knowledge enrichment
and creation of knowledge capital.
