overseas contract in the annals of
electrical
and mechanical division worth
Rs 225 crore, from Qatar

The
electrical and mechanical Division (EMD) of Voltas — a
leading engineering, procurement
and construction (EPC) contractor in the electro-mechanical
turnkey project field — has been awarded a sub-contract by
Rizzani de Eccher, an Italian Company, for the Al Udeid
project (Package 4) for the ministry of defence, Qatar.
Worth Rs 225
crore, it is the result of the confidence built up
with the Italian company Rizzani de Eccher following the successful
execution of the New Central Gold/ Jewellery
Market project in Abu Dhabi as its sub-contractor.
The
contract, to be completed in 60 months, encompasses the
execution of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and fire-fighting
works.
Of the total 73 buildings that involve MEP works, 32
buildings are on a 'design-and-build' basis. These include:

Hardened aircraft
shelters
-
Maintenance
hangars
-
Substations
-
Different types of
workshops
-
Officer/NCO
residential accommodation buildings – 9 Nos.

Recreational
facilities like a football stadium and a shooting range
-
Pumping stations
-
Fuel tank shelters
-
Technical H.Q.
& stores
-
Several other
facilities/bldgs. such as petrol stations, guard houses,
car parks, etc.
Approximately 300 workers
will be employed on this project,
with around 10 management staff and 20 supervisors and
draughtsmen. The scope of work will include design, planning,
supply, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical,
HVAC, plumbing and fire-fighting works. These will generally
cover:

Power and lighting

400 Hz frequency
converters

Uninterruptible
power supply systems

Fire alarm,
public
address, clock & security systems

External works
like MV cabling and road lighting;

Outdoor lighting
for the shooting range and football stadium
The
HVAC works include air-cooled, roof-top packaged units,
large DX split units, window air conditioners, chilled water
systems, and explosion-proof air conditioners for armament
storage.

drainage and fire protection services

Fuel handling
system

Inergen gas fire
protection system for electric and computer rooms

Compressed air
services in workshops for operation of pneumatic tools

External, large-diameter drinking
water supply and fire water pipe work,
including pumping equipment and hydrant system for the
whole complex.
