"Run for a smile" — Titan Industries reaches out to a community
September 25, 2006

Once again, for the third year running, the annual "Great Titan Run 2006", organised near Titan Industry factories in Hosur was a huge success. The proceeds will go to institutions that are changing lives.

The objective of the initiative was to reiterate Titan Industries' commitment to inclusive development and at the same time provide its employees an enjoyable opportunity to participate in a caring gesture. The participants,1800 Titanians (Titan employees) gathered at the company’s jewellery factory grounds at 7.30 am for the 8.5 km round route run to the company’s watches factory. Olympian Arjuna Award winner, swimming champion and holder of 7 best national performance records, Shikha Tandon, flagged off the run.

The estimated amount of Rs 10 lakhs from the company will go to 5 organisations in the charitable and educational sectors, namely, the Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA), Spastics Society of Karnataka, Karunashraya, a hospice that provides terminal care to cancer patients, the Government Higher Secondary School in Jeevan Bima Nagar, and the Government School in Kelamangalam, where the money will be used to improve basic infrastructure such as the school building. Thus a full spectrum of generations — from the young to the old — will be covered.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhaskar Bhat, MD, Titan Industries said, "Titan Industries has always been committed to community involvement. Since its inception, the Titan Run has been associated with a social raison-d-etre. This year, we decided to expand our reach and contribute to five deserving causes. We are grateful to all our employees for making this event an enjoyable exercise in corporate social responsibility."
