design team honoured at the NID-BusinessWorld
Awards - 2004
Receives 6 accreditations in different
categories

Titan
Industries, India's leading lifestyle company
received top honors when its design team won awards
for six different design categories at the recently
concluded NID-BusinessWorld Awards - 2004. Titan
Watches and Tanishq Jewellery stole the limelight
at this year's NID-Business World Awards by walking
away with a total of six accreditations at the
ceremony, which saw some of India's the top-notch
brands vying for the prized distinction.
Michael
Foley, head of design at Titan, received the 'Designer
of the Year' award for his creativity and design
expertise. Titan's Edge watch designed by Michael
Foley was adjudged the 'Best Accessory Design'
in the 'Lifestyle' category while the 'Best Accessory
Design' in the 'Jewellery' category went to Tanishq's
Aamra designed by Pallavi Dudeja Foley of Tanishq
Design Studio. Devotee by Abhijit Bansod and Jellyfish
by Neil Foley won the 'Best Craft Design' and
the 'Best Lighting Design' awards respectively.
Michael Foley had more to cheer about when his
Vaayu for Innoviti was adjudged the 'Best Consumer
Electronics Product'.
Expressing
his delight on Titan's achievements, Bijou Kurien,
COO-watches, Titan Industries, said, "Titan
has consistently demonstrated its leadership position
in design expertise by fashioning a concurrent
blend of modern technology with rich craftsmanship.
These awards are an illustration of the progression
of design strengths at our design studios."
Titan
design team also had the proud honours of being
the final nominee in various other categories
including the newly introduced 'Best Public Furniture
Award'. Talisman, the outdoor clock by Sandeep
Menon was the privileged finalist for this category
while Deep Stambha by Abhijit Bansod qualified
as finalists for the 'Best Lighting Design'. Other
finalists from Titan included Titan Design Studio
for Designer of the Year, Flip by Titan, Men's
jewellery Mechanix by Debashish Mishra for 'Best
Accessory Design' in the lifestyle category and
Neil Foley's Bio Bin for the 'Best Concept Design'.
BusinessWorld-NID
Design Excellence Awards was conceptualised in
2003 as a forum for recognising the best in Indian
design. The awards were instituted with six different
categories in 2003 to felicitate and honour professionals
and companies for excellence in design in these
categories. However, keeping in mind the latest
industry trends, the scope of the BusinessWorld-NID
Design Excellence Awards 2004 was expanded to
eight categories (and 26 sub-categories) in product
and graphic design.
