Titan
presents human integration of time with space
through TIMESCAPES
Institutes
Titan BGC Golf Tournament
December 7, 2004
The
Titan Timescapes was unveiled by Bijou Kurien,
COO watches, Titan Industries at the Bangalore
Golf Club today. To commemorate this occasion,
Titan has instituted a Golf Championship, which
will be played at the Bangalore Golf Club by over
200 participants from the corporate world. The
Titan BGC Golf Tournament is a two-day event to
be held annually and the first edition tees-off
on December 8, 2004.
Through
Timescapes, Titan brings about human integration
of time with space and aims to celebrate aesthetics,
laud creativity and share the joy of design with
society. The project is a series of innovative
clock installations, drawing on the natural and
manmade features of urban outdoor spaces. Integrating
public spaces with the personal concept of time,
the goal of the initiative is to seamlessly construct
an aesthetic and functional contribution to India's
cities without disturbing the environment of the
outdoors.
Speaking
on the occasion Bijou Kurien COO watches,
Titan Industries expressed, "Titan Timescapes
is Titan's way of lauding creativity and enhancing
the very concept of time and space. The Titan
BGC Golf Tournament is our way of emphasizing
the fact that Titan wishes to take this as a serious
initiative, which goes beyond simple philanthropy
or brand building. Through Timescapes, Titan seeks
to affect changes in social perspectives by allowing
good design to be an experience for the common
man and incongruously become a part of public
life. We will also be taking this beyond the garden
city to many parts of the country in the months
to come"
The
clocks assume the form and often the function
of their surroundings. The Timescapes clock installed
at the Bangalore Golf Club, takes on the form
of a tree, harmonizing nature with time - an illustration
of the harmony between golf and nature. This innovative
and contemporary tree shaped structure houses
a clock in one of its branches that have been
adorned with transparent leaves in acrylic and
polycarbonate explained Abhijit Bansod the designer
behind the Titan Timescapes at the BGC.
LED
lights placed strategically illuminate the leaves
in different colours at night to present a stunning
spectacle for the eyes. Astute placement of mood
lights on bushes behind further complement the
beauty of the structure.
Following
the installation of the first Timescapes at Chowdiah
Memorial in September, Titan has taken this project
further with the second installation at the Bangalore
Golf Club. As part of this effort, other unique
Timescapes are scheduled to be installed across
major metros like Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi in
the months to come.
