Titan to launch watches in Pak, jewellery in US
The Hindu Business Line — November 19, 2007

Titan Industries, the Tata group company that produces watches, jewellery and prescription eyewear, intends to take its products to Pakistan, the company's Managing Director, Mr Bhaskar Bhat, told journalists on Friday.

Also, in a few months, it will start selling watches in Thailand. Indonesia is a market that Titan would like to go next, Mr Bhat said.

Mr Bhat believes that Titan watches are already popular in Pakistan. Pakistanis buy them from Dubai. As many Indian TV channels could be viewed from Pakistan, advertisements could be reached into the country, he said. Indian brand ambassadors are well recognised in Pakistan. Titan has appointed the Lakhani group of Pakistan as its distributor.

Titan will also take its Tanishq brand of jewellery to that country.

US foray
Tanishq is also being launched in the US market, most probably next April. Mr Bhat said the jewellery would be retailed, for starters, in New Jersey and Chicago. Outlets of around 2,000 sq. ft each are being created. The jewellery will be aimed to cater to American tastes, not necessarily ethnic India.

Mr Bhat said that Titan would this time be very careful with its overseas product launches.
