Average
purity of gold less than 22 carat: Tanishq survey

In a survey conducted
on gold purity across 40 cities in the country,
the average purity of gold was found to be 19.43
carat as opposed to 22 carat as claimed and in
some cases the gold received in the capital was
found to be as low as 16.32 carat. In the survey
conducted during the ‘impure to pure exchange
offer’ last year by Tanishq, the purity of gold
was found to be lowest in northern city of Kanpur
closely followed by Ranchi. The average caratage
of gold in Kanpur was 17.02 while in Ranchi it
was 17.95. Highest purity levels were found in
Guwahati which reported a caratage of 20.5 per
cent, a Tanishq release said. Among the metros,
Kolkata saw a caratage of 19.71, Delhi 18.9, Mumbai
19.5, Bangalore 20 and Chennai 19.6.
