Tanishq eyes US, UK, Middle East markets
Economic Times - March 15, 2003

Kolkata: Tanishq has decided to go international. The jewellery division of Titan Industries — Tanishq — will now export jewellery to the US, the UK and the Middle East.

V Govindraj, divisional manager, Tanishq India, said, "There are lot of NRIs buying jewellery and we thought of taking the Tanishq brand abroad where people are more comfortable buying Indian jewellery of a brand which they are already aware of."

"Currently, we are introducing the brand in the US in association with a jewellery chain Higlow. We are also working on similar arrangements for the UK and other countries," he added.

Tanishq is expected to clock a turnover of Rs 350 crore in ‘03, a 40% growth over last year. Currently around 10% of its turnover comes from exports (not done under its own brand) and it is expected to grow further in future.

In the domestic market, the company has decided to introduce silverware in its outlets along with gold, diamond and platinum jewellery — already on its selling list.

Mr Govindraj, said, "The company is exploring opportunities for adding items like expensive pens to its wares but nothing has been decided as yet." With 57 exclusive Tanishq boutiques across 44 cities, the company is planning to open another 10 this year.

Mr Govindraj alongwith with former Miss World, Yukta Mookhey inaugurated the 8th exclusive showroom in eastern India recently. Tanishq’s jewellery prices start from Rs 600 onwards.
