TCIL has won the second-level recognition of "Commendation Certification for Significant Achievement" and was awarded the CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence 2006 on November 16, 2006, at the inaugural session of the 14th National Quality summit held at Bangalore.

The assessment team was led by P D Pal. The other members of the team were from varied industries such as BHEL, Coromondal Fertilizers, NTPC AND SAIL.

B L Raina, managing director, TCIL and Tarun Daga, chief operating officer, received the Commendation Award from R Seshasayee, president of CII.

Prizes are awarded in several categories to organisations that demonstrate excellence in the management of quality as their fundamental process for continuous improvement. The categories are:'Strong Commitment to Excellence' (401-500), 'Significant Achievement' (501-600), and the 'CII-Exim Bank Award' (above 600).
