Profile
Tetley has been a member of the Tata Group since March 2000 and today contributes around two-thirds of the total turnover of Tata Tea.

Areas of business
The Tetley Group has a customised portfolio of offerings for each country which include black, green, fruit and herbal teas, iced ready-to-drink teas and an extensive range of exotic speciality teas.

Black teas form the cornerstone of the Tetley offering. Combining the distinctive colour and taste of African teas, the strength and body of Indian teas, and the delicate, refreshing tones of Ceylon teas, each country's blend is designed to suit the individual palates of tea drinkers.

Green, fruit and herbal teas form a growing part of the Tetley portfolio in each country. The Group is the market leader in fruit and herbal teas in Canada; in early 2004, a new range of green, fruit and herbal teas was launched in the United Kingdom, and in 2005, fruit and herbal teas were launched in Australia.

Tetley offers iced ready-to-drink teas in the US and Canada; ready-to-drink teas were introduced to the UK in 2003 via Tetley "T of Life" in three fruit flavours, complemented by two new green tea blends in 2005.

Brands
Tetley is the second largest tea bag brand in the world. It is the number one tea bag brand in Great Britain and Canada, and has significant market shares in the United States, Australia, Poland and France.

Beyond these markets, Tetley is steadily growing its presence in other European countries, particularly the former Eastern bloc nations, in Russia and across the Caribbean. It is further developing its recent market launches in Bangladesh and Pakistan, and in 2005, Tetley began trading in South Africa as well.

The Tetley brand has been accorded 'Super Brand' status in Great Britain.

Research and development
Established in 1837, Tetley was the first British tea company to introduce the tea bag to the UK in 1953, and the company continues this tradition of innovation.

Tetley has been at the cutting edge of innovation in products and packaging. It launched the round bag in 1989, and the 'no drip, no mess' Drawstring bag in 1997.

A stream of successful packaging formats includes the resealable 'soft pack' format for Tetley teas in the UK, and a unique 'stay fresh' round canister for green, fruit and herbal, and speciality tea ranges in Canada, the UK and Australia.

The Group's specialist category development teams work to identify and develop new tea categories and innovative products; they are focusing on innovation in black tea, rapid expansion of the company's fruit and herbal portfolio, out-of-home and ready-to-drink teas.

Responsible business
The Tetley Group is committed to running its business responsibly. Understanding and improving its social, environmental and ethical impacts of its business is central to the way that Tetley functions, and this is evident in the growing programme of local and corporate activities — from waste management programmes at its Eaglescliffe tea factory to the provision of safe water for 10,000 people in the tea growing areas of Malawi.

The Group's environment policy is focused on managing the nature and quality of waste created, the energy used in its facilities and in the movement of its goods and people. A significant achievement in this area was its UK-based sites being awarded ISO 14001 certification for environment management systems in March 2005.

The Tetley Group manages its social impacts by building partnerships with charities and non-government organisations, focusing on causes with a clear relevance to its business. These partnerships go beyond traditional corporate fundraising, involving activities that change both the Tetley business and the partner organisation for the better. This means encouraging its staff to become personally involved in the partnerships, donating their time and skills, as well as money.

Location
The Tetley Group has its headquarters in Greenford, UK. The Group has offices in Australia, Canada, Poland, Russia, South Africa and the US, with joint ventures in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Today, Tetley products are available in over 40 countries.

Established in 1969, the Group's fully-owned manufacturing facility, based in the northeast of England at Eaglescliffe, occupies 220,000 square feet and is believed to be the largest tea bag factory in the world. Its quality management systems are accredited with the ISO 9002 standard.
