TCS projects win national e-governance awards

  • MCA21 (Ministry of Company Affairs) and VAT information system (finance department, Government of Gujarat) recognised for excellence in government process re-engineering
  • Andhra Pradesh's NREGA portal recognised as 'Best Government Website'

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today announced that three of its pioneering e-governance projects won National e-Governance Awards 2007-08 instituted by the Government of India.

These technology led initiatives showcase the ability to transform government to citizen interactions include that of service delivery through the use of technology. The pioneer MCA-21 project undertaken by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to create a paperless, secure, digital environment for its activities won 'Gold' for 'Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering'. The VAT information system executed at the finance department, Government of Gujarat won 'Silver' in the same category. The department of rural development in Andhra Pradesh won brinze for its portal www.nrega.ap.gov.in as the best Government website.

Among the winners was the largest e-governance project in the country and a benchmark for the largest full-scale deployment of information technology in a record time frame in India - the MCA 21 project, which won gold for excellence in Government process re-engineering. The pioneering project has been executed in the build-operate-own-transfer (BOOT) mode to facilitate complete electronic enablement of all stakeholder interaction with the Ministry of Company Affairs.

Conferred with silver for excellence in Government process re-engineering, TCS's VAT information system framework for the commisionerate of commercial taxes, Government of Gujarat, has led to increased tax revenue base and collections, improved services to citizens, voluntary compliance, and reduced costs.

TCS's NREGA framework, an end-to-end IT solution, has successfully automated Andhra Pradesh Government's rural employment guarantee scheme. A web-based data centre aids in the monitoring and review of the scheme on a continuous basis. The solution has brought transparency to the scheme, reduced frauds significantly and improved efficiency in processes. The portal www.nrega.ap.gov.in won the bronze in the 'Best Government Website' category.

These winning projects help showcase the innovative framework-oriented approach created by TCS to transform government operations and increase efficiency of services.
