TCS awarded AS 9100: Rev B certification for airframe structural design

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been certified with AS 9100: Rev B for design and development of airframe structures, and has become the first Indian company to gain this certification. While the certification gives recognition to TCS as a quality supplier to the aerospace Industry, it also provides customers with the benefits of best- in-class solutions and reduced cost of quality.

The certification ensures reduced cost of quality due to reduced number of second and third-party audits, and demonstrates TCS' process-oriented thinking along with commitment to provide value. The scope of the certificate covers - design and development of airframe structures, provision for engineering services / analysis, technical publications and manufacturing support; along with design, and development / maintenance of support software. The audits cover aerospace projects, support groups and management functions in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.

Regu Ayyaswamy, global head of engineering and industrial services unit at TCS, said, "The Aerospace industry practice is a strategic industry vertical for TCS' EIS business unit and this certification is one of the key enablers in achieving its vision of establishing itself as a premier global partner to aerospace OEMs."

R A Venkitachalam, MD, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) India, congratulated TCS for the achievement and said, "TCS has achieved one of the highest ratings for the various audits conducted. Through this certification, TCS has been able to meet these exacting requirements that approach near perfection."

About AS 9100: Rev B Standard:

AS9100: Rev B is a quality management system designed specifically for the aerospace industry, which is, based around ISO 9001:2000 standard and has been developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This model supplements ISO 9001 by addressing the additional requirements required to address the aviation safety concerns and compliance to regulatory requirements.

AS 9100: Rev B is being implemented across international aerospace industry by International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). IAQG has been established for the purpose of achieving significant improvements in quality and safety, and reductions in cost, through out the value stream within the aerospace industry. This organisation includes representation from aerospace companies in the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe.
