Welsh Water
selects Tata Consultancy Services as an ICT alliance partner
December 12, 2006 Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS), the world leading IT consulting, services, business
process outsourcing and engineering services organisation, has been selected as
an ICT alliance partner by Dwr Cymru Cyfyngedig (DCC), also known as Welsh Water.
This latest framework agreement is evidence of TCS' growing capabilities as an
IT services provider to the utilities sector, a key focus area for TCS. DCC's
unique business model involves outsourcing all IT services to its partners. As
an ICT alliance partner, TCS will provide DCC with application development services
with the initial work seeing TCS provide end-to-end services in the area of knowledge
management, from strategy to implementation. TCS will also work collaboratively
with DCC and its other partners LogicaCMG and Capgemini, who are also providing
services in areas such as application development, helpdesk, service management
and infrastructure services. An IT Centre of Excellence with participants from
DCC and all three ICT partners provides a strong governance model for the alliance.
DCC, a well-respected water utilities company that
is highly placed in the OFWAT league table, provides water and wastewater services
to most of Wales and some adjoining areas of England. Operating as a private,
'not for profit' organisation means that cost-effective and efficient solutions
are essential to allow DCC to pass the benefits on to its customers. TCS has been
chosen as a partner because of its proven track record in delivering services
on time and to budget. "DCC's collaborative approach
is based on developing the right business relationships, founded on trust and
openness," said Fraser Nairn, head of IT, DCC. "We are anticipating
a period of significant change within DCC's IT environment in the next five years
and TCS' involvement as an ICT alliance partner will help us in our programme
to secure the future of our business by 2010." "TCS
now has engagements with four of the largest water companies in the UK and we
are looking forward to working collaboratively with DCC and its other partners,"
said Varun Kapur, regional director, TCS. "That TCS has been chosen to be
part of this unique alliance proves our strength in providing IT services to the
UK utilities sector, particularly the water sector," he added. "This
framework agreement is further proof of TCS' domain knowledge and process expertise
in the utilities sector," said DCC's pool of chosen providers." Tim
