Executive vice-president S. Mahalingam took over as chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - southern region at their annual regional meeting held on April 16, 2001.

CII, the foremost representative body of Indian industry with over 3,600 members, was founded over 100 years ago. It has a say in worldwide forums and serves as a reference point for Indian and the international business community in the country.
