TCS
voted best IT employer
Business Standard

Wipro, HCL Tech and Satyam, though among
the top five information technology (IT) companies in
the country in terms of revenue, do not figure in the
list of the top 20 employers in the field.
According to the 7th IDC-Dataquest top 20 best employers
survey, TCS, HCL Infosystems, iGate bagged the top three
spots followed by RMSI and Synechron. IBM, Capgemini,
Infosys, Tavant Technologies and Sun Microsystems comprised
the next five positions in the ranking.
Providing little respite to the IT industry, the study
revealed that the average attrition rate is down marginally
to 14 per cent from 15 per cent last year. The study
also identified the top five reasons why IT professionals
changed their jobs as compensation, job postings abroad,
growth opportunities, job location and technology area
of work. On the other hand, career development opportunities,
work-life balance, organisational culture, job security
and technology topped the list for what the employees
felt gave them most satisfaction.
Though Infosys stood third among the top employers,
it continued to reign as the dream company to work for,
with one-tenth of the employees surveyed voting for
the company. Interestingly, only 28.2 per cent of the
existing employees of Infosys voted for it as "my
dream company", compared to 36.6 per cent last
year. TCS came second with one in 14 respondents, and
IBM was at No 3 with one in 20 respondents voting for
it as their dream company.
The survey results gave women a reason to celebrate
as the number of women employed increased to 23.7 per
cent of the total staff employed by the surveyed IT
companies when compared with 14.5 per cent in 2004,
19.7 per cent in 2005 and 23.6 per cent in 2006.
