TCS House, the
new corporate headquarters for Tata Consultancy Services
(TCS), was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by Maharashtra
chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in the presence of
Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Group, and S Ramadorai, managing
director and CEO, TCS.
The TCS House was formerly
known as Ralli House and is a heritage listed building.
The building was built in 1922 and remodelled in 1966.
TCS bought the property
in 2004. While the historic external stonewalls of the
building have been retained, the interiors and service
systems together with a new technology backbone have
been completely rebuilt and are contemporary in design.
The total cost of restoration
and remodelling of the building is Rs94 crore and the
restored building was handed over to TCS in May this
year.
Proud moment
PTI reports:
"It is a special moment that TCS has registered
a definable corporate headquarters in Mumbai... the
place where it all started," Mr Tata said.
Mr Tata recalled that in
his young days he worked in TCS for six months before
moving on to other assignments.
"I grew up on the
street across the TCS House... I feel nostalgic,"
he said.
Deshmukh appreciated the
Tata Group for its contribution to the state's development.
Ramadorai said the state would have numerous opportunities
for growth through integrated development of Mumbai,
Pune and Nagpur corridor.
TCS has offices in Mumbai,
Thane, Navi Mumbai, a campus at Hinjewadi in Pune and
will start construction of its BPO centre in Nagpur
by the end of year, he said.
