TCS bags deal from United Biscuits
Business Standard December 7, 2006 IT
major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has received a five-year, multi-million
pound managed services contract from Europe's leading manufacturer and marketer
of biscuits and snacks, United Biscuits (UB). TCS has won the contract over UB's
preferred partner for the last five years. TCS will be UB's preferred
IT supplier for applications development and support in the UK. The Tata
firm will also provide end-to-end IT support services for UB ranging from application
support, projects, business analysis services, strategic IT programmes and value-added
initiatives for its UK markets. TCS will also service critical applications
covering key business functions of manufacturing and supply chain, the company
said in a release here today. However, the financial details of the deal were
not disclosed. "This win strengthens our penetration in the consumer
goods industry," TCS vice president and country manager (UK and Ireland),
A S Lakshminarayanan, said. "I am confident that TCS will provide
United Biscuits with the best possible solutions, helping us to grow our business
and operate more effectively and efficiently," said Steve Airton, UK IS Controller.
"We needed a provider that would be able to work strategically with
us to help us achieve our business goals, and implement long term IT programmes."
UB is one of the leading manufacturers of biscuits in UK, joint number
one in the Netherlands and the second largest in France and Belgium. In the UK,
UB is the leading manufacturer and marketer of packaged nuts and the second largest
manufacturer and marketer of savoury snacks and crisps. In Ireland, UB is number
two in biscuits and number three in snacks. |
