TCS lines up Rs 1500 crore TN
expansion

Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to invest around Rs 1,500 crore in Tamil Nadu
over the next two-three years for expansion, according to S Ramadorai, chief executive
officer and managing director, TCS. The company will be investing Rs 120 crore
in the next 2-3 years to set up its operations in Coimbatore. It will initially
be setting up its development centre with a seating capacity for 2,000 people
on a five-acre campus in Coimbatore. The facility is expected to be ready in the
next 18 months. Tamil Nadu chief minister
Karunanidhi handed over the land allotment documents to Ramadorai at the inauguration
of the three-day ICT event - Connect 2006 - organised by CII and the government
of Tamil Nadu, on Friday. Ramadorai said that he was impressed with the quality
of talent pool in Coimbatore. "There is a passionate, well informed and ambitious
community of people in Coimbatore," he added. TCS has already set up an engineering
centre of excellence, specially for small and medium enterprises in Coimbatore.
The company is investing close to Rs 1,200 crore
in its largest facility, being built in Siruseri near Chennai. This will have
a seating capacity for over 23,000 people. It has also earmarked Rs 80 crore for
expansion of its other facilities in Chennai. TCS has a number of development
facilities including dedicated facilities such as insurance solutions centre,
banking and financial services centre and IT infrastructure management and business
process outsourcing solutions centre in Chennai. TCS provides services to around
20 of it top 30 clients from Chennai. TCS has over 13,000 professionals based
in the the state and had announced plans to scale up the total staff strength
to over 22,000 by the end of this financial year. |
