Infy, Wipro top Nasscom exporter list
The Financial Express
June 28, 2006
Trade
body for the Indian IT industry, Nasscom, has ranked
India's largest IT services company Tata Consultancy
Services (TCS) as the premier IT software and service
exporter in the country. Both Bangalore-based Infosys
Technologies and Wipro Technologies follow in second
and third position respectively. Satyam Computer Services,
HCL Technologies, Patni Computer Systems, i-flex Solutions,
Tech Mahindra, Perot Systems TSI (I), and L&T Infotech
make up the rest of the top ten software and service
exporters.
Nasscom president Kiran Karnik
said that India's services exports grew by over 33%
from $13.1 billion in FY05 to $17.3 billion in FY06.
Simultaneously, the industry added over 120,000 people
as the number employed rose from 741,000 people in FY05
to 8,78,000 people in FY06. Karnik said, "The industry
has maintained its growth led by a strong demand and
increased traction for traditional services like application
development and maintenance (ADM) and new services like
enterprise application integration (EAI), package implementation,
engineering services, software testing and service oriented
architecture and web services.
The industry has been able to
maintain this growth, despite a larger base, through
large client wins, cross-border mergers and acquisitions
and the movement of the industry towards a stable-pricing
model. We have a trend where companies are increasingly
winning multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts with
global firms." Karnik added that India has become
a hub for multinational firms for software development,
supply chain management and other services.
To illustrate the point,
he said that leading MNC IT companies have operations
in India, accounting for 16% of their delivery capabilities
in offshore locations with India accounting for as much
as 70% of their total offshore employee base.
