We are sensitive to professional wellbeing of staff: Ramadorai
The Financial Express — December 17, 2004

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) claims that the reason for its success in HR function is the fact that the company is sensitive to the professional wellbeing of its employees. TCS CEO S Ramadorai said that multiple processes have contributed to the company bagging the Hewitt Asia-CNBC TV18 best employer award. Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) followed in the group, provides good assessment if required, added Mr Ramadorai.

Speaking to FE, Mr Ramadorai added that TCS saw continued business growth in verticals like banking, financial institutions, insurance, telecom, BPO, retail and the government sector. He sees potential in areas like healthcare and life sciences. According to Mr Ramadorai, TCS has also been one of the earliest companies to start management consulting. Earlier, it has worked for Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika, Best, some tourism boards and organisations involved in Latur earthquake studies.

Replying to questions about effects of the outsourcing policy of the US government, Mr Ramadorai opined that the issue is not a cause for concern because TCS' business from the US government is very small. Earlier, during a presentation on HR practices of TCS, Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, corporate head-MATC, said that the job situation in IT sector now, is much better than when the tech bubble burst. Attracting and retaining talent is a challenge for this sector and he claims that TCS has been successful at it.
