Indian firms

Rolls
Royce is likely to consider outsourcing IT work
to India. Information technology is an obvious
area of collaboration between Rolls Royce and
Indian companies, according to Rolls Royce chief
executive officer John Rose. He was speaking at
a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII) here on Thursday. The UK-headquartered
company is keen on partnerships with Indian varsities,
under its university technology centre programme
for research and technology. Rolls Royce invests
$1 billion annually on research and technology,
focusing on areas of innovation.
Indicating that IT was a great enabler, Mr Rose
said that it had helped the company increase its
productivity by 12% over the last decade. Tata
Consultancy Services executive vice-president
Phiroz Vandrewala, who attended the meeting, said
that the chief executive officers of British companies
needed to consider investing in India. “British
companies enjoyed a large degree of goodwill in
India due to historical reasons and the CEOs should
capitalise on this."
