Asian Age - March 26, 2003

Tata Consultancy Services is looking beyond the domestic healthcare market and is planning to foray into Southeast Asia and the European market for its flagship healthcare product, Hospital Management System. "We have a decent exposure in the US, UK and Indian market. The SE Asian and European countries have similar hospital management practices and thus we are targeting these markets.

Moreover, both the markets have not been using IT for health-care practices and we think we can tap these huge market," Mr J. Rajagopal, director-global life sciences & healthcare, TCS, told The Asian Age. The healthcare division of TCS is also planning to double its manpower from the present 450 within the next 18 months.

"The total IT market for the healthcare industry in the country is about Rs 500 crores and it is growing 20 per cent annually. We want to grab a major part of this emerging market and we can do this by strengthening ourselves," Mr Rajagopal said. The HMS package has 22 modules and caters to different areas of healthcare institutions such as patient care and hospital administration.
