The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council — the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar — are a key market for Tata companies. The Group is keen on expanding its presence in these countries, especially in the areas of IT, hospitality, engineering, steel, power and chemicals. The Group entered the region in the early 1990s and currently employs more than 4,000 people in the region.
Among the Tata companies having businesses in the region are:
- Tata Consultancy Services offers services in banking, financial services, insurance, retail, telecom and the government sector.
- Indian Hotels operates the Taj Palace Hotel in Dubai and is developing the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa, a luxury resort at the Palm Island Jumeriah crescent in Dubai.
- Voltas undertakes electro-mechanical contracts in the UAE for hotels, airports, palaces and shopping centres.
- Titan imports and distributes watches and jewellery.
- Tata Interactive Systems provides e-learning work for a variety of clients.
- Tata Motors has developed a market for its trucks and buses through a well-established distributor network.
- Tata International’s subsidiary, Tata West Asia FZE, exports Tata products such as steel, chemicals, minerals and engineering products, and markets Tata Chemicals’s Topp salt. Its joint venture, Zamil Tata International, provides IT solutions and business consultation services in Saudi Arabia.
