Tata
Teleservices makes a big success of BREW in India

Tata Teleservices, a part of
the Tata Group, is one of India's premier telecom service
operators. Tata Teleservices has been recognised as
one of India's leading BREW application service providers
and a potential buyer of applications at the BREW Developer
Conference in San Diego.
While participating in the Qualcomm
organised Brew Developer Conference in San Diego, Tata
Teleservices announced the successful migration to a
fully paid Brew service in April this year, with over
a million downloads of applications, wallpapers and
ringtones in the very first month.
Tata Teleservices' association
with this technology began with Qualcomm for the use
of the QUALCOMM's BREW in October 2004 marked as country's
first commercial deployment of the world-class BREW
platform for mobile applications from Tata Teleservices.
Tata Teleservices initially launched
Brew data services with an impressive range of 55 applications
and games in entertainment and productivity, with the
support of International developers such as Wimos, eMbience,
Nancy's Inc, MessageVine, Lumitrend and Tourmoline.
World-class games from global developers such as, India
Games, Thumbworks (Infusio), Reaxion, and Adria Games,
introduced many new customers for the first time, to
gaming on mobile phones.
Close on the heels of this launch,
Tata Teleservices has aggressively moved to the next
phase with Brew applications that cater to the specific
tastes of Indian customers. Applications covering cricket,
spirituality, Indian movies and the Indian stock markets
have been created with global and local Indian developers
such as Leapstone, Astute Systems and eMbience.
On the occasion, Pankaj Sethi,
vice president (content and applications), Tata Teleservices
and a speaker at the BREW Development Conference, said,
"With the capabilities of Brew, we have been able
to provide a richer and more comprehensive experience
of data services to our customers. Video download services
for instance could be made available even on our mid
end CDMA handsets, providing a significant advantage
over our GSM competitors. In other applications we have
in a short span of time, managed to build enhanced features
like community sharing and personalisation. All these
give better value to our customers."
