Tata Indicom becomes the first mobile service provider to nationally launch Push-To-Talk in New Delhi

In a major initiative, the first-of-its-kind for a mobile service provider in India, Tata Indicom, one of the leading service providers in India, today announced the commercial launch of Push-To-Talk services in New Delhi. With this latest endeavour, Tata Teleservices has become the first cellular service provider to launch PTT across India.

Inaugurating the Push-To-Talk (PTT) service, Mr Amit Bose, president, telecom — Tata Teleservices, made a Push-To-Talk call to Dr Naresh Malhan, chief operating officer, Tata Teleservices, New Delhi circle.

Push-To-Talk from Tata Indicom will allow customers to connect directly, in seconds, with other Tata Indicom PTT users by simply pressing a button on their Push-To-Talk capable handsets.

Targeted at corporates, small and medium entrepreneurs and mass consumers, the Push-To-Talk service will be available on Kyocera KX 440 handsets with a host of additional features such as BrewChat applications, group talk etc.

Inaugurating the launch of the Push-To-Talk mobile service, Mr Amit Bose, said, "We are happy to introduce Push-To-Talk across the country. As an introductory offer, for post-paid customers, PTT handsets are priced at Rs 5,000 and can make unlimited calls by paying a flat monthly rental of Rs 99. In addition, Tata Teleservices is offering an EMI scheme for corporates, where a corporate customer can buy a PTT handset by making a down payment of Rs 1,000. The corporate customer will have to pay an EMI of Rs 350 for 12 months. Besides these offers, Tata Teleservices will shortly introduce bulk discount scheme for corporates.

Tata Indicom is the first mobile operator in India to offer Push-To-Talk. Built on QUALCOMM's BrewChat technology, this service enables person-to-person and person-to-group communication between users at the 'push of a button'. This feature provides fast connection to individuals or even groups of people. This PTT service has been specially designed for CDMA200 1X networks and will go live, for the first time ever in the world on the Tata Indicom network.
