Hyderabad:
Tata Teleservices Limited, the private basic operator
of Andhra Pradesh, has added 12 more CDMA (Code
Division Multiple Access) cell sites in the twin
cities to its existing base of 18 cell sites.
These cell sites will increase the overall coverage
area to 150 sq. kms in Hyderabad, from the current
level of 110 sq. kms aimed at improving the quality
of voice transmission on the wireless circuit.
The network is also designed to help improve the
quality of voice transmission to be experienced
on Tata Mobitel and fixed wireless connections.
Speaking
on the expansion, Mr Ajay Pandey, COO Tata Teleservices
Limited said "In keeping with our plans to
expand the coverage area for our wireless customers,
we have added 12 more CDMA cells sites as the
first phase of our expansion."
Among
the various technologies available for wireless
deployment, a CDMA network needs lesser number
of cell sites to cover the same area vis-à-vis
a GSM network. This has been done to cater to
the needs of its customer base. The increase in
cell sites is part of the first phase of the Rs
500 crore investment program towards expansion
of coverage area for wireless. TTL also plans
to create a 3G capable network, to enable introduction
of a range of wireless communication products
and services.
Tata
Teleservices currently enjoys a customer base
of over 70,000 in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur
and Visakhapatnam and deployed the latest technology.
The company will extend services to six new towns
before the end of the year.
