Tele bags fixed phone lines contract
from GHIAL

GMR Infrastructure Ltd on Thursday
said its joint venture firm GMR Hyderabad International
Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has awarded the fixed line services
management contract for Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
at Shamshabad to Tata Teleservices Ltd.
GHIAL is presently engaged in developing Rajiv Gandhi
International Airport at Shamshabad in Hyderabad, Andhra
Pradesh.
The contract given to Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL) is
valid for a period of five years, GMR Infrastructure
said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
"Telecommunication is a key component of the functioning
of an airport," GHIAL Chief Financial Officer Rajgopal
Swami said.
"We have chosen Tata Teleservices based on its
experience and expertise in the telecom field and we
are confident that it would deliver the infrastructure
and services at par with the facilities found in any
other international airport," he said.
TTL has emerged as the preferred bidder from among
several reputed players in a highly transparent and
competitive bidding process, it said.
It has been selected on the basis of technical and
financial criteria, including experience, expertise
and know-how in telecommunication, GMR Infra said.
The Tata group firm would provide fixed line (voice
and data) services at the new international airport
in accordance with specifications of GHIAL, it added.
Under the agreement, TTL would provide a number of
facilities including primary rate interface lines with
direct inward dialing facility and integrated services
digital network lines (for video conference).
