from GHIAL

The Economic Times — December 28, 2007

GMR Infrastructure Ltd on Thursday said its joint venture firm GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has awarded the fixed line services management contract for Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad to Tata Teleservices Ltd.

GHIAL is presently engaged in developing Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

The contract given to Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL) is valid for a period of five years, GMR Infrastructure said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

"Telecommunication is a key component of the functioning of an airport," GHIAL Chief Financial Officer Rajgopal Swami said.

"We have chosen Tata Teleservices based on its experience and expertise in the telecom field and we are confident that it would deliver the infrastructure and services at par with the facilities found in any other international airport," he said.

TTL has emerged as the preferred bidder from among several reputed players in a highly transparent and competitive bidding process, it said.

It has been selected on the basis of technical and financial criteria, including experience, expertise and know-how in telecommunication, GMR Infra said.

The Tata group firm would provide fixed line (voice and data) services at the new international airport in accordance with specifications of GHIAL, it added.

Under the agreement, TTL would provide a number of facilities including primary rate interface lines with direct inward dialing facility and integrated services digital network lines (for video conference).
