Tata Teleservices Ltd today signed a memorandum of understanding with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay) to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE).

The CoE would focus on developing rural application and provide support to the telecom industry in shaping its future growth, Tata Teleservices said in a release.

It would also undertake India-specific application development that matches with the behavioral pattern of the masses and adds value to their day-to-day activities -- both economic and social, it said.

The MoU is aimed at supporting the growth of telecom sector and further strengthening the government's programme to take telecom to grassroot level in India, said Tata Teleservices MD Anil Sardana.
