Tata
Tele, MCX tie-up to weed out middlemen
The Economic Times December 14, 2007
Tata Teleservices has tied up
with Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) to provide the farmer
the best price for his goods.
It intends to add new services on the commodity exchange
platform that will, in effect, reduce the number of
middlemen in the supply chain, which in turn will enhance
the farmer's share of the end-consumer price.
The alliance will leverage the cutting-edge mobile
communications technology developed by Atom Technologies.
In course of time, the partnership also intends to
use the logistics services provided by National Bulk
Handling Corporation.
Currently, it is felt that middlemen add little value
by their contribution in the value chain. Every middleman
pockets his little share and these add up to quite a
chunk, leaving the farmer with an unfairly smaller share
of the money that the end-consumer pays. The TTSL-MCX
alliance aims at correcting this aberration.
