Indicom hits million in Kolkata

Tata Indicom has crossed 1 million
subscriber mark in Kolkata circle in a little over two
and a half years on the back of strong sales of mobile,
Walky & PCO connections in the city.
Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, Abhijit Pal,
COO, Kolkata Circle of Tata Teleservices said, "We
are aggressively strengthening our presence in Kolkata
and focusing on providing customers with innovative
and quality services."
Tata Indicom has already spent Rs496 crore in Kolkata
circle till August 2007 and would spend a total of Rs600
crore in Kolkata by March 2008. The aim is to reach
a subscriber base of 41 lakh this financial year from
23 lakh right now.
Bulk of its investment would be in putting up more exclusive
retail outlets and BTS towers in the region.
Tata Indicom plans to add 977 BTS towers this financial
year and 101 new retail outlets. At present it has 1,092
BTS towers and 654 exclusive Tata Indicom retail outlets
in eastern India.
Tata Indicom, at present, operates in West Bengal, Bihar,
Jharkhand, and Orissa in eastern India. "With new
age handsets, attractive schemes and service that are
in the offing, we hope to increase our subscriber base
in the city substantially in the days to come, Pal further
added.
At present Kolkata has over 7,52,476 mobile customers,
over 2,13,329 walky customers and over 35,371 PCO customers
in the city. Tata Indicom also provides wireline services
to some of the top corporate houses of the city and
has 3756 customers in the segment.
Tata Indicom has also announced the launch of their
festive scheme - Pujor Kotha - for new prepaid and post-paid
customers of Kolkata.
Under the Pujor Kotha offer, every new post-paid customer
will be entitled to free talktime worth Rs150 and also
receive music CDs or cassettes at par with the puja
mood.
Apart from this, there are a host of gifts awaiting
both the prepaid and post-paid customers. A weekly lucky
draw will be held and customers can win DVD Players,
microwave ovens, digital cameras and handycams.
Tata Indicom will also embark on an aggressive advertising
strategy to highlight Pujor Kotha across all mediums.
