Tata
rolls out single-chip mobile handset

Tata Teleservices
has launched a new single-chip mobile handset that offers
multiple features and a host of functions. The company
claims that that the Motorola Motofone F3C handset,
fitted with a Qualcomm's chipset is the first single-chip
cellular product in operation worldwide. The handset
measures 9.1 mm and weighs 75 grams. The ultra slim
handset has been specially designed to suit the Indian
consumers, with voice prompts in six languages - English,
Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The company
says that more regional languages will be added later.
With this release, Tata
Indicom claims to have become the first operator in
the subcontinent to introduce the single-chip handset
in place of the four-chip handsets prevailing in the
market.
