Tata Teleservices
has chalked out a Rs 4,000-crore mega investment plan
for this fiscal to expand coverage to 4,000 towns across
the country.
Tata Teleservices CEO Darryl
Green said the company has also tied up with Chinese
firm ZTE for providing 2,600 base stations to expand
its network in remote areas.
"We plan to expand our network
dramatically, for which Rs 4,000 crore will be spent
by March 2007," Green said on the sidelines of
the launch of new CDMA handset in tie-up with Samsung.
Speaking about the new handset
Mr Green said it was India's first anti-theft mobile
tracker and emergency SOS alert CDMA mobile handset.
In case it was stolen and sim
card on the phone was replaced, the handset automatically
sent an SMS to upto two pre-selected numbers giving
the contact number of the new user without the new user
knowing about it.
The handset also has a
feature of sending automatic SOS to upto 10 pre-selected
numbers if the user faced any emergency situation. The
user only has to press 'C' key four times to activate
it. The new handset has been developed specially for
Indian market.
