Tatas to invest Rs 9,000 cr in telecom in FY06
The Financial Express — March 23, 2005

The Tata group plans an additional investment of Rs 9,000 crore in Tata Teleservices in 2005-06 which will include rolling out services in 2,500 more towns by September 2005." With an incremental investment of over Rs 9,000 crore in telecom slated for 2005-06, we are gearing up to cover 2,500 more towns by September 2005 which will take our coverage to 3,700 towns," Naresh Malhan, COO, Delhi and Rajasthan said. He said the funds would be raised from debt as well as equity and did not give any further details.

Operators are now eyeing to enter the small towns and villages as the demand for telecom service in urban-metro areas is getting saturated.
