Tata
firms, IITMumbai in pact for wireless lab

Tata
Teleservices and Tata Infotech have joined hands
to set up a wireless application laboratory at
IIT-Mumbai. The two sides signed an memorandum
of understanding (MoU) to this effect.
The
two companies would explore and develop a range
of innovative applications starting from speech
& script recognition software, video streaming,
ATM-based applications and entertainment-based
mobile applications such as sports and news updates.

Ramakrishnan, managing director of Tata Teleservices,
said in a press release, "The decision of
the two companies to tap group synergy is set
to benefit the customers of both companies. The
various hi-tech wireless data applications, jointly
developed by the two companies would enable us
to service a range of entertainment and productivity
needs for our customers."
Charles
Antony, COO, Tata Infotech, said, "The firm
is happy to partner Tata Teleservices and will
also work with IIT-Mumbai towards enhancing the
virtues of wireless technology, leading to increased
value delivery to our customers."
Tata
Teleservcies and Tata Infotech would also look
at content development in a bid to stay ahead
of the competition.
Tata
Teleservcies has been promoted by Tata Industries
and offers both basic and cellular services under
the Tata Indicom brand.
