S. Ramadorai appointed Chairman of Tata Technologies

Pune, July 25, 2001: The Board of Tata Technologies Limited, (Tata Technologies), a global frontrunner in high-end consulting, application implementation and software development services for manufacturers and their partners world-wide, today appointed Mr. S. Ramadorai as the chairman of the company. Mr. S. Ramadorai is the CEO of Tata Consultancy Services.

Welcoming Mr. S. Ramadorai, Mr Patrick McGoldrick, Managing Director, TATA Technologies, said, "We are glad to have as the chairman of our board, Mr. Ramadorai, who has made TCS one of the world's largest global software and services enterprises with almost 17,000 consultants worldwide. Mr. Ramadorai brings to Tata Technologies significant experience in managing high technology, rapid growth, quality improvement and large international clients. He added, "Mr Ramadorai’s extensive global expertise and guidance will contribute significantly towards enhancing and consolidating Tata Technologies’ position at the high end of Engineering Automation, Enterprise Solutions and E-Commerce marketplace whilst further exploiting continuing synergies with TCS."

TATA Technologies serves it customers through global industry practices in the manufacturing and engineering sectors. The practices are Engineering Automation, Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Collaborative Product Data Management (cPDM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) and eBusiness. TATA Technologies is in the process of building a global development hub at Pune spread over 9.5 acres in the Pune Information Technology Park. 

Mr Ramadorai has played a pioneering role in establishing TCS’s Offshore Development Centers (ODCs) in India to provide high-end solutions to major corporations including IBM, Microsoft, General Electric, Hewlett Packard, Tandem-Compaq, American Express, Capital Bank, Target Corporation, Citibank, Qwest, Lucent Technologies and Nortel. Furthermore, Ramadorai has spearheaded TCS’ quality initiatives, taking thirteen of its Development Centers in India to SEI’s CMM Level 5, the highest and most prestigious performance assessment issued by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Over 7,500 TCS employees have been covered by this assessment.

Mr Ramadorai holds a Bachelors degree in Physics from Delhi University, India, a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the Indian Institute of Science, India, and a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of California, USA. In 1993, Ramadorai took the Senior Executive Development Program at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

Mr Ramadorai is the Vice Chairman of TATA Elxsi (India) Ltd, Vice Chairman of the Mumbai (India) Chapter of IEEE Computer Society; Chairman of the Mumbai (India) Chapter of UNIX Forum and Vice Chairman of IND-UNIX. He is also on the Board of Directors of Tata Industries Limited (India), Tata Infotech Limited (India), Engineering Analysis Centre of Excellence Pvt. Ltd (a joint venture with General Electric), WTI Advanced Technologies Pvt Ltd. (India), Aerospace Systems Limited (India), Global Procurement Consultants Limited, India, Tata Internet Services Limited, Airline Financial Support Services (India) Pvt.Ltd. (AFS), Nelito Systems Limited, eBIZ Solutions Limited and InnovaTV Inc (USA).
