Tech goes hunting DreamWorks comes calling Tata
Hindustan Times — October 11, 2005

Tata Technologies, the Tata Motors' subsidiary that has just completed the acquisition of UK-based Incat International, is looking for more acquisitions in southeast and eastern Asia. The company is also looking at setting up a certification programme in auto-engineering for engineers in India. Patrick McGoldrick, the company's Chief Executive Officer told Hindustan Times in an interview, "the Incat acquisition gives us a good presence in the UK and especially in the US, which is home to the large automakers. Now we want to have a strong presence in Japan."

McGoldrick said, "Incat has an office in Japan which will be growing. We have already met the employees and customers. But we will also look for acquisitions in these markets and have demonstrated through the Incat acquisition that we are not afraid to acquire." He said that while Tata Technologies has an offshoring model that allows it to send work to India, Incat has a presence with the auto and aerospace companies that will complement Tata Technologies' offshoring strength.

McGoldrick added, "we are hiring everyday in India. We will also hire in the United States as we want to maintain a strong presence at the customer's site. The certification programme in India will be largely Internet-based and will be run through channel partners."

On the acquisition plan, McGoldrick said, "we are obviously looking for something in the design and engineering field. If they fit our needs, we will continue to acquire regardless of size or geography. We will be looking at the depth of skill available with the company, the customer relationships that they have and the geographies in which they operate." The company has already acquired 97 per cent of the shares of Incat International.
