Safety awards for Tata Steel's Jharia division
August 20, 2007
Bhelatand
Amalgamated Colliery and Sijua Colliery of Jharia Division
of Tata Steel have bagged the National Safety awards.
In the category of difficult underground mines, Bhelatand
Amalgamated Colliery was selected as the winner for
the "longest accident-free period" for years
2004 and 2006. It had bagged the award in 2003 as well.
Sijua Colliery was selected as the runner up for the
longest accident-free period for the year 2005, receiving
this award for the first time.
With Tata Steel focusing on and promoting safety, these
awards are an exemplary achievement. The underground
mine has registered an accident-free year, which is
truly commendable. Sijua and Bhelatand collieries are
underground coalmines in the Jharia division of Tata
Steel. They are both degree II, gassy mines with a maximum
working depth of over 450 metres.
