Tata
Steel awarded first prize for overall performance of
its Noamundi iron ore mine

Tata
Steels Noamundi Iron Ore mine won the first prize
for overall performance in the Highly Mechanized
Iron Ore Mines category, in the 44th Annual Mines
Safety Week Celebrations 2006 for Chaibasa region. The
event was organised by Directorate General of Mines
Safety (DGMS), government of India. Tata Steel won the
first prize for overall performance, for the third consecutive
year and it also won 20 awards in the group events and
24 awards in the individual events respectively.
In the fortnight-long Annual
Mines Safety Celebrations, 172 mines from six districts
of Orissa and Jharkhand, namely the twin district of
East & West Singhbhum, Seraikela & Kharswan,
Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts participated.
Tata Steels Gomardih Dolomite
Quarry (GDQ) got the first prize for its overall performance
in the Lime stone and Dolomite category for the 10th
time. Gomardih Dolomite quarry, situated in Sundergarh
district of Orissa, has maintained accident-free operations
since August 9, 1992, and was awarded National Safety
Award for Lowest Injury Frequency Rate in 1999.
The closing function of the 44th
Annual Mines Safety Week Celebration 2006 for Chaibasa
region was hosted by Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL)
at Soyabali, Barbil on November 26, 2006. Kunal Kumar
Passi, Dy director general of mines safety, South Eastern
Zone, Ranchi, government of India, was the chief guest
on the occasion. The function was also attended by R
B Chakrabarty, director, mines safety, Chaibasa region,
and Dy director, mines safety, Chaibasa region, M/s
M R Mandave and S Soren.
Chief guest Kunal Kumar Passi
in his address praised the innovative initiative of
mobile blasting shelter in Tata Steels Noamundi
iron mine. He said that this innovative effort would
go a long way in modernisation of mines and making the
mines safe.
Tata Steel mines division
and ferro alloy and minerals division has won several
state and national awards, including, Indira Priyadarsini
Vrikshamitra Puraskar of National Afforestation &
Eco-Development Board, Greentech Environment Excellence
Award, Gem Granite environment Award, etc.
