Tata Steel grants scholarships to meritorious tribal students

Tata Steel has granted scholarships under its Jyoti fellowship programme of Tribal Cultural Society to Mr Sundar Mohan Hansda and Mr Anata Lal Tudu for their academic excellence. Mr Hansda has qualified for the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee to pursue a B.Tech in computer science, and Mr Ananta Lal Tudu has qualified for the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. The scholarship will cover all the academic expenses, tution fees and also hostel fees of these tribal students till completion of their course.

The Jyoti fellowship programme of Tata Steel is basically designed to assist the meritorious tribal students in meeting their academic expenses. The awards, worth Rs 25 lakh in total, are available to all SC/ST highschool students who are permanent residents of Singhbhum East/West, Sareikela - Kharsawan, Ranchi, Hazaribag and Dhanbad districts of Jharkhand.

Jyoti fellowships were started in the year 1990. In 2005-06, 390 students received the awards. This year, about 1000 students appeared for the Jyoti Fellowship of which 400 students will be selected.
