Tata Group projects in Orissa launched by the chief
minister

The Tata Group, in continuation
of its commitment to the economic development and progress
of the state of Orissa has commissioned three major
projects in the sectors of technical education, information
technology and tourism. In events held earlier in the
day, Naveen Patnaik, honorable chief minister of Orissa,
solemnised the foundation stone laying ceremonies of
the J N Tata Technical Education Centre by Tata Steel;
a software development centre of Tata Consultancy Services;
and Indian Hotels innovative and first-of-its-kind
category of Smart Basics Hotels indiOne.
The events were attended by senior officials from the
Tata Group including B Muthuraman, managing director,
Tata Steel, H Nerurkar, vice president (KPO) Tata Steel,
Sheila Nair, COO, Roots Corporation, and Ajoyendra Mukherjee,
vice president, Tata Consultancy Services.
The projects commissioned by
the chief minister for the various Tata companies include:
- J N Tata Technical Education
Centre at Gopalpur in Ganjam district in order to
improve the employability of youth of Orissa.
- Construction of the first
of the several indiOne Smart Basics
hotels in the State located at Plot No H, Mauza Nayapalli,
Bhubaneshwar. The hotel will be commissioned within
the next 10 months.
- Development of the 45-acre
land for the TCS campus including its Global Development
Centre in Bhubaneshwar with a capacity of over 1,000
professionals to provide IT, ITES and related services
to its customers worldwide as well as the state government.
Speaking at the event, B Muthuraman,
managing director, Tata Steel, said, Tata Steel
remains committed to be a 'partner in progress' with
the state of Orissa and will continuously strive to
improve the quality of life of people through overall
socio-economic development and sustainable industrialisation.
Commenting on the development of indiOne in Bhubaneshwar,
Sheila Nair, chief operating officer, Roots Corporation,
said, The Smart Basics Hotels category
has truly emerged as a compelling business opportunity.
We have received tremendous response across segments
from travellers, to government and industry. It gives
us great pleasure to develop indiOne in Bhubaneshwar,
as it is one of the key destinations. The state of Orissa
holds tremendous potential for this innovative category
of hotels and our initiative will also boost the infrastructure
to cater to the domestic and international tourists.
TCS is keen to further
develop its relationship with the state of Orissa. The
human resources talent available in the state and the
commitment of the government augurs well for development
of Orissa. We look forward to developing our Global
Development Centre in the TCS campus to provide our
IT services to our domestic and international customers
from this region and increase our engagement with academic
institutions in the state, said Ajoyendra Mukherjee,
vice president, Tata Consultancy Services.
