Tata Steel’s 2.4

expansion programme

The
board of directors, Tata Steel, at its meeting held
on June 30, 2004, has approved the company’s 2.4 million
tonnes per annum steel capacity expansion programme
at its Jamshedpur Works, at an estimated cost of Rs
7800 crore, which would be met out of internal accruals
and long term borrowings. This expansion project is
likely to be completed by 2009.
Tata Steel, currently produces four million tonnes
at Jamshedpur, is undergoing a one million tonne
expansion programme, which would be completed
by September 2005. With the addition of 2.4 million
tonnes, the capacity at Jamshedpur would increase
up to 7.5 million tonnes.
