Tata Steel’s website addresses  investors proactively
June 29, 2004

Tata Steel, in its ongoing commitment to increase stakeholder value, is addressing the information and interactive needs of its shareholders and the financial community. Tata Steel has been at the forefront of grasping  the potential unleashed by the information technology revolution.

Thus, while Tata Steel has an array of measures to interact with its
financial community, it has leveraged this technology to reach out to its financial community through the web, in a fast, reliable and cost effective manner.

In its quest for enhancing transparency in its business and opening new channels of communication with its stakeholders Tata Steel launched its website – www.tatasteel.com – as early as July 4, 1998.

The website was launched as a window to the company and has now grown to become a full- fledged steel portal. The reputation of the site was established with the conferring of the IISI People’s Choice Award by the International Iron & Steel Institute (IISI) at its summit in Rome in 2002 and several awards by the Association of Business Communicators if India, over the years.

Based on our online feedback system, and in-depth interactions with users of the website both within the company and from the financial community, Tata Steel has launched an investor relations sub-site at www.tatasteel.com/investorrelations/default.htm. It shall address and reorganise the investor-related information and expectations in a new investor-specific section.

Presently the website already addresses the issues of:

1. Shareholder value:

  • General information: This section contains details regarding number of shares, number of shareholders, etc. It provides details regarding the following:

    • Company’s share capital
    • Listing on stock exchanges with stock codes – BSE and NSE
  • Share prices: This carries information on:

    • Share prices for the current financial year
    • Share prices for the last financial year
    • Tata Steel’s share prices for the last 5 years (month-wise)
  •  Shareholding pattern: This section lists the details of the distribution of shareholding in the last quarter.

2. Performance:

  • Quarterly results: Results for the last four quarters.
  • Balance sheet: The company's balance sheet for the last
    financial year

  • Production and sales performance: This would have detailed official statements on the production and sales performance including a comparison with the previous year's figures
  • Analyst meet presentations: Senior management’s presentations to the financial community
  • Past years at a glance: This contains the details for the last ten years on operating results, sources and application of funds etc.

3. User interface :-

  • Bulletin board / FAQS: Answers to generic queries to be elaborated to the present and the future stock holders
  • Feedback form: A pre-formatted on-line form using which visitors send queries / comments / suggestions via e-mail. Queries thus received contain the necessary information for Tata Steel to respond.

The road ahead shall see the Tata Steel share registration information system, as well as the reorganisation and redesign of the present content into a more user-friendly format.
